Remembering Haitian Heroes

John Fitzgerald Kennedy, 35th President of the United States wrote “A nation reveals itself not only by the heroes it produces but also by the heroes he remembers.”

It is not about how a man dies that makes him a hero, it is about how he is being remembered that makes him a hero.

Let’s celebrate and remember our heroes a special way to tell them that they did not die in vain.

At the approach of January 1st, 2011, Day of the Independence of Haiti, January 2nd , 2011 Day of our Ancestors, and January 12th 2011, the first anniversary of the earthquake that had killed not only Haitians but had also retarded the progress of the country, on January 1st at 2400 hours (midnight), Bobb Q Rousseau, Haiti 2020 Scholarship Fund, SEQUOYA 90.7 FM Stereo, and Léogâne Magazine invite Haitians and friends of Haiti around the world to turn their lights off for one minute and fifteen seconds in honor of the fallen as well as to experience for less than two minutes what the majority of Haitians currently living in Haiti have been experiencing since the day they were born and what a few have been experiencing since 1986.

We also invite, we the people of Haiti to re-strengthen our faith in ourselves and to hope that 2011 will be the year Haiti will regain whatever it had been losing since 1804.

We furthermore ask, we the people of Haiti to join hands and minds to create a productive environment where politic, education, social development, technology come together to create a Haiti that resurrects nationalism and attract tourism and foreign investments.

Finally, may 2011 give us strength to create a generation of highly skilled and knowledgeable Haitians who can take the governance, the management, and the leadership of their own country.
